Your College Library

How is a college library different from a public library?

PUBLIC LIBRARIES

A public library serves the general public. Public libraries often have departments that focus on different age groups, including children, teens and adults. Public library collections and services meet both the recreational and informational needs of their communities.

Public libraries often offer special programs or services such as: childrens' story hour, summer reading programs, resume-writing workshops, computer classes, genealogy and local history help, and open public computing use.

ACADEMIC LIBRARIES

A college or academic library is part of a college or university. Academic libraries serve the students, faculty and staff of their college or university.

Begley Library is an academic library. Begley Library's collections and services support the academic programs of Schenectady County Community College. Providing research assistance to SCCC students, faculty and staff is the first priority of Begley Library's reference librarians.
