Fall Book Chat

If your schedule allows for a summer reading list, consider adding Greg Mortenson’s Three Cups of Tea. Then plan to join in a book chat during the fall with friends and colleagues, without the last minute rush to get it read.

Copies will be available for loan at Begley Library’s main desk during the summer term and until the fall book discussion. Copies are also held by most public libraries in the area, and paperback prices make it an affordable choice if your prefer to purchase.

Date, time and location for the book chat will be announced in the fall. We expect to continue the practice of meeting on a Thursday during College Hour, with beverages and cookies provided. Bring your own lunch, come and go as your schedule allows, and give your brain a break from your usual routine.

Enjoy your summer!

Your book chat coordinators,

Lynne King and Pam Walsh

Leisure Reading Collection - new location

The leisure reading collection has moved. It is now located on a shelving unit to the left of its old location, behind the newspaper stand.

Our leisure reading collection contains novels, mysteries, biographies, romances, self-help titles, and other books that are fun to read.

We moved the leisure reading collection to make way for our leisure DVD collection, which is coming soon! Watch this space for more information about our new DVD collection.

Good to Great book chat - Jan 29

Get the new semester off to a good start with an engaging conversation among colleagues and friends on the big ideas in Jim Collin's book, Good to Great. Learn how these ideas may apply to SCCC as we prepare to welcome the next college president and move into a new chapter in the college's history.

Where: Begley Library conference room (B104)

When: Thursday, January 29, 11:30-12:20

Feel free to bring a lunch if you like. Beverages and cookies will be provided.

Copies of Good to Great are available to be signed out at the Library's Circulation desk and have already enjoyed plenty of use through the fall semester. Pick up one if you haven't had a chance to look through it yet, or visit the author's web site http://www.jimcollins.com/ where you'll find updates and supplementary materials on the research and ideas originally presented in Good to Great.

Of special note are the samples of the author's work which apply Good to Great thinking to social sector organization, including those in education.

We look forward to seeing you on January 29!

Book chat organizers,
Pam Walsh, Lynne King and Carrie Laier
